Commonwealth Sport has officially announced that Malta will host the 8th Commonwealth Youth Games (CYG) in late 2027, a historic first for our islands!
The launch was held at Verdala Palace on 31 July 2025, marking the signing of the Host Collaboration Agreement in the presence of Malta’s Permanent Secretary, Mr. Matthew Vella; the Minister of Sport, Hon. Minister Clifton Grima; Commonwealth Sport Malta President, Julian Pace Bonello; Malta Commonwealth Sport Secretary General, Kevin Azzopardi; Commonwealth Sport President, Dr.Donald Rukare; and Commonwealth Sport CEO Katie Sadleir.
Malta’s unique dual-island concept will see world-class venues across Malta and Gozo come to life, supported by two Athlete Villages. Around 1,150 athletes aged 14-18 from 74 nations and territories will complete in 8 sports, including two exciting debuts, Sailing and Water Polo.
The Programme
The programme also strengthens inclusivity, with Para Swimming joining the line-up alongside Para Athletics, making Malta 2027 the largest Para sport programme in CYG history.
This is a proud moment for Malta and the Commonwealth, showcasing sport’s power to inspire youth, celebrate diversity, and unite nations.
